Baby Boy Sports Shower

Well, it was baby shower time again.....this time for a sweet little boy.
It was a lot of fun to put together this shower for a long time friend. Some fun decorations, with some yummy and easy food and a few simple games combined for a fun night.

My friend and her husband are both big sports fans, so I tried to incorporate a sporty look to the party, combined with a country feel for this small town family.

Here is the link for the "Peanut Butter Popcorn". The recipe directs to make balls with it, but I just served it in a big bowl and broke the popcorn into small chunks.

Hair Clips

Here are some hair clips I made for an upcoming wedding for the little flower girls. One will be on a clip and the other on a headband because my baby doesn't have much for hair! The wedding is a vintage style wedding so the assortment of cute old buttons I found worked out just perfectly!

It's a Shower!

I got to throw a friend a baby shower last week and had a lot of fun thinking of a few ideas of things to make for it!

Here is a few pictures and a recipe from the shower.

The button monogram. I have been wanting to try my hand at one of these for a long time, and thought it would be a cute addition to a little girl's room. I used a plain ol' glue gun to attach the buttons onto some cross-stitch fabric, and then some jewlery adhesive for the pearls and rhinestones. I used a small Ikea frame and attached it to the board using the glue gun as well.

The board is a 12 x 12 MDF board that I had cut at Home Depot. I used mod podge to adhese the scrapbook paper. I also did a thin layer of mod podge over the finished monogram and the cross-stitch fabric just to make it a little more durable.

The hanging lanterns I had picked up at Pier 1 a while ago. I wanted to make the neutral lime green a little more girly, and in keeping with the colours for the theme of the party I made some little rolled flowers out of crepe paper (streamers) that I had bought from the dollar store.

I attached the flowers using "Zots" (a scrapbook glue dot that can be found at Michaels or any scrapbook store), and used good ol' Scotch tape to keep the flowers together.

One of the little finger foods I made for the shower was some "Turtle Bites". They were a hit and were also easy to make! Here is the recipe, but watch out, they are addicting and very easy to justify eating as they are small!

Turtle Bites (recipe from Krystyn Jahn)

Two Bite Brownies (big box from Costco) 1/2 cup butter
8 oz. cream cheese 1/2 cup brown sugar

2 cups whipping cream 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk

1 1/2 cups icing sugar 1/2 cup pecan pieces

1/4 cup milk chocolate

First cut the center of the brownie bites out, not all the way through on each brownie and kind of shape the sides (a melon baller works well). Second, cream the cream cheese (works best if it has been out at room temp.) then add the icing sugar and cream together. Third, melt the chocolate on the stove top or microwave (I usually add a little milk). Fourth, mix it into the cream cheese mixture. Next whip 2 cups whipping cream and then fold into the cream cheese. Put cream cheese mixture into a large Ziploc and snip the bottom.

Caramel: In saucepan combine 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk. Stir continuously so that bottom doesn't burn and let boil for about 2 minutes. While hot, put a small amount in each brownie and then pipe the cream cheese mixture in using the Ziploc (be generous here!). Place a small pecan on to of each one and place in fridge to set up. Enjoy!

Mother's Day Gift---from the kids

Check out Tess's great mother's day gift on her blog:

Happy Mothers Day

For my primary class this Sunday I made a little treat for the kids to give their moms. Feel free to copy it if you are in need of an idea! I just happened to have a bunch of baby food jars kicking around and was able to put them to good use! Who doesn't love HOT LIPS!

This i my favourite of all time quotes! This is what the complete quote from Sister Hinckley says:

"I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails.
I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp.
I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children.
I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden.
I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder.
I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived."

Salad Dressing----Family Recipe

Tangy Salad Dressing.....From our Family to Yours!

This is a treasured family recipe of ours. This is my Great Grandma Karren's recipe, and I grew up always having a jar in our fridge. There was no jars of Mayo or Miracle whip around, just this good stuff! It is meant for potato salad, but also goes great on sandwiches, and my dad's favourite is on a toast with freshly sliced tomatoes and a little salt and pepper! Enjoy!

1 cup sugar
2 tsp salt
1 cup vinegar
1 cup water
2 heaping tbsp flour (sometimes 3)
2 tsp dry mustard
4 eggs

Beat all ingredients and cook in double boiler until thick, stirring often and beating with electric mixer. When thick, put in Mason jar and cover with lid. Makes 1 quart.

Spring Time!

I thought this was such a cute and simple idea! Check it out at Auntie Lolo Crafts! You could use this idea for any holiday, or even do a monogram. I made a similar one using a canvas from the Dollar Store for St. Patrick's day with a Shamrock shape and green, white and black buttons.

What are you up to for Spring crafting?

50 Years Young

Party time! We hosted my mother-in-law's 50th birthday party at our house a little while back. For the decorations I found these paper lanterns at Pier 1 on clearance for $1.50 each (regular $12!). I got some old photos of her printed at Costco and stuck them in some frames from Ikea ($0.99 each) and added some buttons with Zots for a little embelishment on the frames.

(not the best pic......sorry!)

The meal turned out great! I have been loving my cookbook from Our Best Bites and everything came from there.

We had:

Green Salad

Cookie Pie with Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce (I really like my recipe.....2 c. sugar with 1 can evaporated milk, 1 cup margarine and 1/2 cup cocoa......bring to boil and let simmer for 10 min....so good and easy!)

Yummm!

We finished off the night reading through a scrapbook I put together with my sister-in-law which was comprised of letters from family to my mother-in-law and pictures of her life! It was a great evening!
